Howard Goldstein founded
The Glen Ellyn Consulting Group in 2001 after working over 25 years in
various executive positions in the insurance business and a successful
Internet start up.
His property and casualty insurance
expertise includes successes in such diverse areas as product development;
target marketing; establishing a state of the art marketing research function;
creating the first relational database to be used in analyzing producer
data; serving as business lead on the team that developed the first P&C
claims imaging system; creating distribution strategies including designing
high performance agency programs and agent contracts. Keys to his success
include the ability to get people from different parts of an organization
to work together towards a common goal and bringing large, ambiguous projects
down to manageable, implementable tasks.
His extensive background in
all phases of the business of insurance began with majoring in Insurance
and Finance at the University of Cincinnati and earning an MBA from DePaul
University in Chicago.
Howard has been at the cutting
edge of many innovations within the insurance industry. As a Vice President
at Zurich Financial Services, he created a marketing support division
which grew from concept to the worldwide "Center of Excellence." At CIGNA
he started HMOs from scratch and helped build them into viable organizations.
At CNA he was involved in affinity group marketing and alternative distribution
systems.
As Senior Vice President of
Marketing at Visibillity, an Application Service Provider (ASP) which
provides value added claims services to the insurance industry, Mr. Goldstein
established the marketing function, created the brand and was integral
to their successful early growth.
In his consulting practice
Howard has worked with P&C companies in marketing research, marketing
strategy development and developing a marketing research function. He
also works with non-insurance companies who are interested in selling
to insurance companies. The focus is on target marketing and helping companies
better understand the insurance industry, its needs and key drivers. Non-insurance
related clients have successfully worked with him on strategic marketing
issues including distribution, segmentation and positioning.
Mr. Goldstein has spoken extensively
on the subject of target/niche marketing throughout North America, Europe
and Asia. His articles have been published in the worldwide press and
he has been quoted in numerous trade journals.
He is an adjunct Marketing
professor at Chicago’s Loyola University Graduate School of Business teaching
marketing courses and at DePaul University in Chicago where he started
the insurance curriculum and teaches "Introduction to Insurance" "Employee
Benefits" and "Property and Casualty and Risk Management" courses.
Howard is currently Secretary
of the Society of Insurance Research.
